Last week was the beginning of my attempts to achieve my SMART goal. The goal, which stated that I will eat/drink no more than 1 serving (2 oz cheese, 1 cup milk, 1 yogurt, etc) of dairy once a week, proved to be about as difficult as I thought it would be. Yeah, it was pretty tough. I might have slipped a couple of times here and there, mostly with cheese. For the most part I did really well and used salt, hot sauce, salsa and spices to provide more flavor in my attempts to avoid cheese. This made me feel a lot healthier but was difficult to keep up for very long, especially when eating with other people.

Luckily, I've devised a method to prevent this from happening again- For each time I eat dairy when I'm not supposed to, I will put one dollar in a "no-dairy jar". Hopefully this will give me some more motivation not to slip up.
I'd really like to continue this SMART goal and see the changes in my health as time goes on. Hopefully with the help of my friends and my trusty no-dairy jar I will make progress towards achieving my goal.

The no-dairy jar is a great idea! I think that will be a great tool for you to have in this process. Your goal would be hard for anyone who is used to consuming dairy on a regular basis. Keep up the good work and good luck!
ReplyDeleteI like your no-dairy jar also! I think it is great that you want to add a little extra motivation to achieving your SMART goal. I can't imagine cutting back on dairy that much so I admire your efforts. Keep it up!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea with the diary jar! I could imagine how hard it is to avoid dairy especially cheese. Using other products to avoid cheese is a good idea. Hot sauce and salsa are great alternatives. Those are actually the things I use a lot of them time instead of things like dressings. You do not really think about how much animal products you really eat until you try to monitor it.
ReplyDeleteEmily, I really like your dairy jar idea. Hopefully you don't empty your pockets to much with this behavior change but it offers really good incentive to change. I wouldn't worry to much about slipping on your goal at first because I like some other people had some trouble following our goals the first week. I fell short on my goal but know that I can do better in the weeks to come. I hope your goal goes better this week and good luck. Keep up the good work.
ReplyDeleteEmily, that's such a great idea! It's like the new version of my parent's "naughty word jar" haha! I seriously commend you on your goal, dairy is something that has been very hard for me to cut down (i luuufff cheeez!!!!) Keep up the good work!
